Our students have started their English journey by working on Jamila Lyiscott's poem "3 ways to speak English".

ResponderEliminarI agree that there are other ways to speak English. being Portuguese I don’t have the perfect accent, so I try to speak the language with my own twist but still trying to articulate the words correctly. But having different versions of each language is the fun part because it means that different cultures try to learn different things showing the diversity of our world and it’s not something to be ashamed of but to be admired
ResponderEliminarIn my perspective there are a lot of ways to speak any language in the world. It's a way to people to differentiate themselves from each other, and a think it's the funniest part of it because it is through it that cultures and lifestyle are differentiated between towns and even countries.

ResponderEliminarI completely agree that there are various ways to speak English, with different words and ways of saying things, just like the differences between the American English and the British English. And yes In my native language there are different ways of speaking too!! Depending on where you live, there are different words for the same things.
ResponderEliminarIn my opinion there are other ways to speak English like in Portugal the native language is portuguese but some people speak mirandês and cacundeiro.

EliminarI agree with the ted talk and I think more people should hear this because there are many many ways to speak our language and there shouldn’t be a correct way to do it. I sincerely think that we should open our horizons and learn more and more about every and each type of accent.
ResponderEliminarI agree that there are more ways to speak English, but depending on place or people that you have around. You can speak in a more polite way ou in a less polite way.

EliminarIn the modern world, tolerance should be accepted. Despite existing more acceptation, that is not enough. I believe that everyone is unique in this world so if there are differences in the ways we talk, we should say it anyway. Unfortunately I do not speak different versions of English or Portuguese; however, i would like to learn them.

ResponderEliminarWe live in a world where english is the most famous and common language among people. And with that, there is a lot of different ways to speak the language, ways wich I agree. As a portuguese girl, I can tell there are variations of it. English is my second language and when I speak i tend to talk with an american accent, only because I am more used to, by tv and movie culture, most of the projects of this art we call cinema, is made in the usa, so therefore it is normal to speak more like an american. But that doesn't mean there is not different variations, by the opposite. English deserves to ve spoken in different ways.
ResponderEliminarI'm naturally concerned that all the ways to speak in English are completely acceptable, the diversity makes the language rich and unique, I speak with a notable accent pronounce and that doesn't bother me at all, being an immigrant makes me totally proud of my roots and my achieves and my voice reflects exactly that.
ResponderEliminarThere are several types of English, the best known are American English and British English. It isn’t the only language that can be spoken in many ways, we also have the example of Portuguese which is divided into 3 types.

I agree with this statement. In my opinion there are many different ways of speaking each language, specially english like for example the american and the english way, and i think that it is awesome. In my point of view that is what makes each language so special. In Portugal we also speak in several different ways and we end up learning with each others so i think that it is very enriching for everyone.
ResponderEliminarThere are other ways to speak English as well as in a other language like Portuguese. I don't speak the perfect Portuguese because I was born in the north of this country and here it is spoken in a less formal way than in the center and south
ResponderEliminarI totally agree whit Jamila Lyscott's and i don't think there is just one right way to speak english and portuguese, but i do think that there is a way to speak in different occasions. If you're in a more formal moment you should talk more adequately but if you're more relaxed, for example with your friends and family, you can and you should talk your version of you own lenguage.

ResponderEliminarWe must , and most important , we need to accept that there are different ways to speak languages.
This doesnt only applies to the native world language (English ) but also for other secundary languages.
For example , the portuguese spoken in Portugal (CR7 native country) isnt the same as in Brazil.
Even the portuguese spoken in Portugal has not a 100% identic language . There's the the Islands (madeira and Açores ) accent , the "cigano"( name that makes reference to Indian communities living In Portugal) accent , and like Nuno Costa Said , there's also the "caxineiro" accent.
Talking about English , I generarly speak a mix of british/American accent.
I agree that there are different ways to speak English, for example British and American English are the best example of the same language Being spoken in a different way. The same thing happens with Portuguese since people from Brazil speak a portuguese different from the one spoken in Portugal.
ResponderEliminarIn my opinion, there are many ways to speak the same language, because it depends also on the location in which we are growing. Every place has its own accent. So I think there’s no problem with that. I also have a different accent speaking Portuguese... by: Catarina Braga

EliminarNot just english but other many languages have their own different versions.Agreeing with the way and the place we have been created our dialect can really change.Obviously there are people that see this changes as a crime and a sign of ignorance but it really is not.This differences in the grammar and syntax are culture and they really help in not losing people’s identity.So,i see this Ted Talk as a way of thinking grow.People must hear this!

ResponderEliminarObviously, there are different ways to speak English depending on where you live, your origins and others aspects. English is a international language and its dialect differ. I prefer to speak American English, but also British switch them up and my Portuguese is the same all the time and more Portugal Portuguese can’t be (believe me).
ResponderEliminarContinuing, English has various ways to speak and this Ted talk shows that there isn’t a right way to speak it, but different forms. I hope people don’t judge you to quickly from the way you sound.

ResponderEliminarIn my point of view, there is only one English language whoever what makes it unique is the way we culturally choose to pronounce and articulate it; that’s what creates the diversity of versions of the English language. In our country, the same thing happens due to the different zones we live in that makes every single one of us have the a typical accent from that area such as Porto, Lisboa, Algarve, among others. The truth is that the way that we say certain things that may or may not be totally correct or correspond to the grammatically right way of the language makes it special, it’s the beauty of it.

ResponderEliminarThere’s always a difference in the way we talk depending on with who we’re talk to, because we don’t talk the same way to a teacher the same way we talk to our parents as well as we don’t talk the same way to our friends, it’s not like you go in the classroom and “E quê stor, tudo fixe?” to you teacher or go out with your friends and say “Então colega, como foi o seu dia?”. People tend to speak differently on a different environment so yes I think that there are indeed different ways to speak not only English but probably every language in the world.
